Too much stuff

If you haven't seen Annie Leonard's Story of Stuff video, now is your chance. This story was shared with Internet users back in 2007, and has been seen by millions around the world.

Leonard, with the help of Free Range Studios, tells the story of the true cost of all the things piling up in our lives. In the video, we are taken through an expertly delivered explanation of the extraction, production, distribution, consumption and disposal processes that our stuff goes through to keep the cycle of buying and trashing stuff on constant rotation. The content is delivered in a sharp, simplified and cartoon-laced format that helps shed needed light on issues of modern-day consumerism. Check out this teaser video about the film:

Leonard is pretty qualified to tell this story: she has spent more than 10 years traveling around the world to see where the stuff we buy gets made, and dumped. She also has an impressive amount of experience, having worked with GAIA (Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives), Health Care Without Harm, Essential Action and Greenpeace International.

This story has also made its way into book form. Leonard launched The Story of Stuff this March 2010 as a way to include all of the information she wasn't able to fit in her web movie. In its pages, expect to find stories about how laptops, books and t-shirts get made and signs of hope through examples of real people stepping up to take on important changes in what chemicals are being made and used to make new and healthier things.
