Beauty that needs a makeover

This past week, the creator of The Story of Stuff released a new online film, The Story of Cosmetics, which links the chemicals in your lipstick and aftershave to breast cancer and learning disabilities. What?! Watch the 7-minute video:



So, we've all heard murmurings about nasty "toxins" in our make-up and shampoos, but that's what so many of us chalk it up to, murmurings. I think Annie Leonard (and The Story of Stuff Project), the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and Free Range Studios have done another great job here of taking a tough issue and breaking it down into palatable pieces and bringing this important subject to our attention.

Canada's Environmental Defence sent an email out shortly after the video was released to share with all of us the news that Canada's federal government is currently updating is Costmetics Regulations. Among Environmental Defence's recommendations were sharing the video and signing their Just Beautiful petition, calling for safer cosmetics and personal care products in Canada.
