This picture is worth a thousand words...


The exhibition is called Beautiful Destruction, the photographs are aerials of the Alberta tar sands, and the artist is Louis Helbig.

The photo you see above is a "thick layer of residual bitumen and a thin film of oil/bitumen reflecting both a late summer sunset and the sky on the Albian Sands Muskeg River Mine tar pond."
